After the meeting of the NLC on Sunday, January 31, the labour union issued a communique which has parts of its content that the union was ready for a showdown with the government of Imo state over the laying off of workers in the state.
The document was jointly signed by President of the body, Ayuba Wabba, and its General Secretary, Peter Ozo-Eson.
The labour body after expressing its fear said the governor of the state, Rochas Okorocha is sponsoring some private terrorists
It stated: “Governor Okorocha has raised a private militia which he has armed to the teeth and they are presently inflicting injuries on innocent workers.”
The verbal expression issued by the NLC further verbally expressed that: “Congress considers this as illicit and resolved to make a report to the IGP, admonishing that in the event that Okorocha transgresses the law by unleashing the militia again on workers, that would be consequences.
“Congress resolved that any state governor who infringes the sacred obligation of conventional payment of salaries, gratuities and pensions will incur the wrath of workers.
“Congress withal resolved to mobilize to any state that retrenches workers because workers should not be made the scapegoats of the downturn in the economy.”
The labour cumulation integrated that it will “mobilise to Imo state to shut it down as a replication to Governor Okorocha’s consistent anti-labour policies, impunity and retrenchment of workers, in spite of his promises to the leadership of the Congress that he would not take such decisions. Congress additionally resolved to take a national action in reverence of Imo if obligatory.”
On the flipside, the same NLC earlier verbally expressed that the labour body plenarily in support of President Muhammadu Buhari.
